Pika, THE BITING CAT
66Pika's life
Fat Cat
In the late 90's we were living in Italy. We had the beautiful Maine Coon named Budget. He was a gentle giant. My oldest child ,Raven thought he was lonely. She wanted to get him a kitten. I think she wanted a kitten.
People always have kittens to give away in Italy. They do not fix the animals like we do here in the States. But that is another hub. We gave a home to a cute little kitten. She was a Calico.
This kitten was always running. Like an electric bolt. Pokemon was Raven favorite cartoon.Which has a character that shoots out electric bolts. That was how she became know as Pika. She also loved to bit us to get her way.
Pika did not get very attached to Budget. This sadden me. When you try to hold her she always wanted to be some where else.So a lap cat she wasn't. However, the landlord's cat did take up with her. His name was Doo Doo. He was a grumpy cat if I ever saw one. But the two of them hit it off.
They would chase the pet duck that belonged to the landlord. Run in the field across the street together. Climb on the roofs and catch lizards. They did every thing together.
One time a strange cat came around and was trying to hurt Pika. Doo Doo came out of no where and chased that cat. Beat it up. Then chased it out into the street. The poor cat was ran over. The tiny Italian car didn't even stop. I could not help but cry. I also thought it was so cool how Doo Doo came to the rescue of his true love.
Sadly one day the landlord told me that Doo Doo became ill and had died. Pika became sad and I don't think she ever got over him. She became very fat. We put her on a diet, but she was still eating lizards. We couldn't keep her indoors, since we had no screens on our windows.
Everybody aways loved Pika, even if she bit them, she was not a social cat. We would even have people ask to have her for their pet. But she was Raven's cat even if she was not friendly.
When we moved to Germany, she went with us. Budget had passed away in Italy at the age of sixteen years. We had taken in Magic, a grey Italian feral cat.
Pika never wanted to go out again. She finally came a indoor cat. No weight came off. The Vet said she is just a fat Calico.
We moved to Turkey next. She stayed an indoor cat. We would try to get her to play. It never last for long.
I was given my Siamese, Chai. She was running around like a kitten does. Trying to get the grumpy older cat to play with her. WHACK! That was the end of that.
A year ago she started having potty problem. Our Vet, could not find anything wrong. We all cried. We were having to clean poor Pika . We could not let her out of our bathroom because you never knew when she would have an accident.HER BITTING BECAME WORSE. Ouch!
So we had to put our grumpy Calico cat down. So many tears for a grumpy cat.
Every cat I had since I was a little girl , has had it's own personality. Not one has been the same. Like people you love. The cats we love we never forget.

Cats do the durndest things, don't they? I love cats. Have had some fascinating times with cats over the years. Also had biting cat.

We took in a stray like Pika. Chris was wild, but somehow trusted us enough to come into our home. He would eat and sometime sleep at home, but you could not pick him up and self could pet him, without receiving the wrath of his claw. One day he just never came home again. I love that big old stray.
We had an visiting yellow tabby outdoor "occasional" cat (we just called her OC) who was fun and sweet but we had to visit with her from through the door screen because she'd lure you into thinking she was having fun being petted and talked to but then suddenly, she'd just reach out and bite. Apparently she'd learned that was a way to show affection, but it wasn't ok. She was a roaming cat and you'd never know what she had on her teeth. But she loved to "talk" and would rub against the screen while I sweet-talked her & "petted" her through the screen as long as I wanted. Another problem was that our male cat, Toulouse, wanted to be friends with her but his sister, Camille, always hissed and growled at her. It was the only time we'd ever heard either of our 17-year old cats do that. So best not to invite OC inside.
Our cats were strictly indoor cats. On the few occsions they were allowed out, they obeyed the rules to stay on the patio. Camille didn't even want to go out and sometimes Toulouse would get entranced watching a squirrel and you could see him starting to crouch as though about to pounce off the patio, but a quiet "no" or "Tousy" would restrain him. They were both very obedient and never ever had they been harshly restrained. They knew and obeyed the few rules. One rule was that they weren't to groom themslves and jiggle the bed if I were lying on it. It drives me nuts. haha - but if they forgot, I'd merely lay my hand gently on them and they stopped.
what a wonderful menagerie! :D
Too funny (but also kinda sad about having to put the calico down). Your picture gallery is so precious!
I, too, love cats. We have four and they all have their own personalities! MM
I love this hub! This is Pika's memorial. What a beautiful, awesome calico Pika was, one of the prettiest I have ever seen.
So far this year there has been no strays dumped off by the farm, but if they come, I am ready for them. I built an insulated coop inside the barn that is nice and cozy for any stray cats that need a home. I bet there are lots of mice in the barn too, I gave last years strays to the cat rescue, that was last summer, the mice have had the run of the place ever since!
Thanks for sharing with us about Pika, too bad you did not get a kitten from her.
I LOVE cats! These pictures are wonderful!
Hi, I love your pictures! we have always had cats in our family, usually two, so I know how their personality's are so different, what a great story, thanks nell
Hi, I forgot to say that the word pica, which is similar to pika, actually is the technical word for eating strange things! for example when people chew on pencils, or even stranger things like their hair! so it was a very apt name for a cat that bites! lol
I can tell you have much love for all your animal family members.

Dear BJ : I really enjoyed reading about your family, and your love for your cats. Your hub revealed so many details and interesting personality behaviors in your cats. Cats can be such wonderful family like additions as you come to learn their very own individual ways, and habits. Cats seem to be intelligent, and loving creatures. Last night our beautiful cat Boo crawled under my blanket, curled up and went to sleep with me. I am so happy that God Blesses us all with children we can love, and loving animals we can cherish. God Bless You and Your Sweet family and your beautiful cats.
